Not a Creature Was Stirring
Tis it seems the season to be jolly. It is also a very strange time in the year, where the family dog gets a very bad reputation. Unwarranted, I think, but you draw your own conclusions.
During the course of a year, we clean a lot of mattresses. There are obvious health benefits. We spend approximately one third on our lives on our mattresses. Just as you wouldn’t wear the same underpants for 4 months in one go so too, you should really get your mattress cleaned on an annual basis.
The mattress cleaning process, involves, a thorough vacuum, to remove all of the dead skin cells, dust and fluff. A dust mite treatment which discourages the mites that cause breathing irritations and illness, a sanitiser to ensure the mattress is bacteria free and a hot water extraction to rinse and clean.
Mattresses cop a bit of a hiding and not always in a good way. Perspiration, urine, semen, blood, all find their way onto mattresses from time to time and this is another reason why we find ourselves cleaning a lot of mattresses.
Urine is a common issue. Chem-Dry has a proprietary product called PURT (Pet Urine Removal Treatment) which is designed to remove dog wee out of carpets, but also has a pretty good effect on (human) wee in mattresses. Urine crystalises when it dries, so in order to extract it, you need to break it down to a liquid form, which is what PURT does. Often times kids have little accidents during the night and that’s where we come in. PURT reacts with proteins, so there’s a whole other blog about the time we cleaned a teenage boy’s mattress whilst he and his mother watched on. It was like little volcanos erupting all over this poor mattress.
But back to our canine friends and their annual curse of Christmas. It is the strangest phenomenon which begins to happen late in November each year. We’re all going to various Christmas parties and enjoying the Christmas spirit (sometimes a little too heartily it seems). For some reason this becomes the only time of the year, when the “dog” decides to wee on the mattress of the marital bed. Oddly enough, it usually coincides with the husband’s Christmas party having been the night before.
When that first job of the year comes in, where the dog has done a wee on a mattress, we know the silly season has begun.
Thankfully, PURT and Chem-Dry come to the rescue and manage to retrieve everyone (thing) from the dog house. So if your dog attends a particularly raucous Christmas party this year, give us a call. We happily take the piss out of everything.
